SUBJECT: SEA OF CORTEZ

This month we are going to take you to a place where the water is so blue it hurts to look at it. The fish are so strong that your best reel may not be near good enough during the fight. And the biggest trout you so ever proudly caught would be considered a nice piece of bait. Where is this place? It’s just south of us actually running along the eastern edge of the Baja California peninsula. It called The Sea of Cortez. The late Jacques Cousteau once called this place “god’s aquarium.” He considered this as the most abundant location of life on our entire planet. Teaming with game fish it is a place that should be at the top of your must do list. We’ve invited a long time Baja and Sea of Cortez veteran Jay Murakoshi to come and share with us years of experience about these waters. He has been exploring this area and its waters since the early 60’s. His program will give you an overall view of Mexico’s Baja’s peninsula. We will learn about roosterfish, jacks, dorado, yellow fin, black skipjack, wahoo, rockfish, and the area’s famous sailfish. An area of focus will be the La Paz/Isla Cerralvo portion of the East Cape. He will also cover everything you will need to know about to travel abroad down there. Including tackle, rods, reels, lines, flies, etc.... He has in the fl y fishing business for 33 years. His background includes 32 years of commercial fl y tying and having tied for such notables as Lefty Kreh and Trey Combs. He has tied for most of the Northern California shops at one time or another. Some of his patterns have been featured in California Fly Fisher, Southwest Fly Fishing and Western Outdoors. Just recently, he became the west coast contributing editor for Fly Fishing in Salt Water magazine.

As a celebrity speaker, he has spoken to thousands of people at events such as the Inter-national Sportsman Exposition in Sacramento, San Mateo and Los Angeles. He also does speaking engagements for the Fly Fishing Show in San Rafael, Ontario, Seattle, and Denver. With his partner Ken Hanley, he conducts on the water seminars related to the salt water fl y fishing both on local waters and in Baja. He is also on pro staff for G. Loomis, Bauer Fly Reels, Angler’s Sports Group (Dai Ichi Hooks). See you there.
