NOVEMBER SPEAKER

SKIP MORRIS
FISHING
THE SURFACE OF A TROUT LAKE
S omeone once said a
fly tier creates flies made to resemble insects or bait fish, tied with
thread, animal hair, and other strange products; but the master fly tier is
the one who uses ALL of the above materials and puts imagination, realism
and knowledge into his or her creation and then teaches this art to others.
Our guest speaker this month is Skip Morris. Skip resides in Washington
state’s lush and wild Olympic Peninsula. He is a master fly tier,
professional fly fishing writer, and author of numerous fly fishing and fly
tying books. For over thirty years ‘Master Morris’ has been tying flies and
instructing the novice along with the experienced tier in the art of fly
tying. Skip’s flies have won many awards, and he is widely recognized as a
skillful and innovative tier. When I say innovative...how about a pattern he
calls the “Morrisfoam Predator”.. that is tied from buoyant floating
materials and then is fished on a sinking line? Sounds crazy but it’s very
successful. As an author, Skip Morris has written ten books, over 200
magazine articles, and has been the host on fly fish Television Magazine.
Skip’s program will be “Fishing the Surface of a Trout Lake”. This program
will cover material that the lake pros rarely discuss. He will cover
hatches, fly patterns, and techniques, along with specific strategies for
presenting flies to rising Trout. Skip will show us how to read different
rise-types and how to figure out what hatch is on and what fly might work.
The program is packed with information and will be presented by one of the
great tiers of this sport. This could be a very helpful program for those
who are addicted to lakes and big fish, like Crowley and Heenan. So bring a
friend, your brother, sister... or better yet the entire family. What you
will learn that night should be shared with family and friends!
