Jason Borger Fly Presentation Techniques W ith the holidays behind us, what better way to start the New Year than to spend a great evening with friends at our January meeting. Wednesday, January 23, should to be a day to remember, especially if you were one of the six lucky winners at the Banquet silent auction who secured a spot in the fl y casting class to be given by our speaker, Jason Borger. Jason is a professional fl y-fishing educator. He published his first fl y-fishing article at age 13, and began working on fl y-fishing videos when he was 16. Jason grew up with a fl y rod in his hand and caught his first trout at the young age of 2! He learned the art of fl y fishing from his father and his love for the sport grew into a profession. His famous father was such an inspiration that Jason followed in his footsteps by teaching, writing books and articles, and producing videos. His big break came in 1991, when he worked on Robert Redford’s silver-screen adaptation of Norman MacLean’s famous novel “A River Runs Through It”. This essentially pulled everything together for Jason. He continued with his writings, as well as teaching, and began to focus on fl y casting methodology. This led to another book in 2001, “Jason Borger’s Nature of Fly Casting-A Modular Approach”. In 2004 he joined the newly formed Fly Casting Institute as Education Director. This career step led to advancement in both the mechanical and medical aspects of fl y casting. In Jason’s words, “fl y fishing is a never-ending journey”. It has taken him to the most wild and beautiful places, showing him the deeply involved rhythms of water, land and fish. It has opened doors, and has created an arena where both the artistic and technical sides come together. In short, fl y fishing is part of who Jason is. His accomplishments can only be expressed as a dream come true.Ron Bishop Program Director and Vice President
