I very excited to report that our
featured speaker for our February meeting will be Joe Humphreys. Joe is a
nationally known fly fisherman, fly tier, conservationist, author, educator,
video producer, and lecturer. His books include; Trout Tactics,
Trout Tactics Revised, and On the Trout Stream.
He is regular contributor to regional and national periodicals including:
Fly Fisherman, Outdoor Life, Flyrod and
Reel, and Pennsylvania Angler.
As an educator he has been a fly
fishing instructor for over forty years to all walks of life. In addition he
directed the angling program at Pennsylvania State University for nineteen
years. Some of his former students have included President Jimmy Carter,
Vice President Dick Cheney, and Legendary Basketball Coach Bobby Knight.
Joe hosted the first national fly
fishing series to be seen on US television, “Fly Fishing Journal”
which was cablecast on ESPN. He also has produced and appeared in numerous
successful fly fishing videos during his career. Joe also has created
several instructional videos on fly fishing, including "A Casting Approach
to Nymphing."
Joe will be sharing some of the wealth
of his knowledge about the intricacies of "Nymph Fishing for Trout," (and,
hopefully, how to catch large trout nymphing). I could not think of a
better instructor in the country to address this subject, and I look forward
to learning a lot. It should be a fun as well as educational meeting.
When Joe Humphreys caught his first trout at the age of six, it was the
beginning of a lifelong passion. Today he studies flyfishing, he writes
about it, he teaches it. The trout stream in his backyard has become his
laboratory, and he is the consummate flyfisherman.
Eager to pass on his wisdom and the techniques he has developed, he shares
his expertise with everyone, including college students taking Humphreys's
course at Penn State and President Jimmy Carter during a fishing trip in
Pennsylvania. He often holds flyfishing clinics.

trouting experience on some of the world's toughest water
