Speaker for August Andy Burk
This month we go far a field together to taste something quite a bit different than our usual general meeting fare. We are going south to Brazil’s Amazon basin to learn and experience Peacock Bass fishing on the fl y. There are few fish that are more aggressive and willing to take a fl y than the Peacock Bass. There are few more exotic places to go than the Amazon. Together they make an amazing adventure to those that are willing to make the trip. You game for something truly exciting and beautiful? Come to this month’s meeting. Our speaker this month will be Andy Burk. You might know him from Reno Fly Shop fame and his numerous articles in California Fly Fisher Magazine. Join Andy on an exciting adventure in the darkest Amazon Jungle in pursuit of one of the most exciting game fish in the world the Peacock Bass. Andy will discuss fishing tactics flies and the beauty of the Amazon basin. Andy Burk was born in 1966 in Redding, California. Andy’s introduction to fishing began early on fishing trips with his father and uncles. At the ripe old age of twelve Andy began tying flies and fl y fishing. It was late in his high school years that Andy decided that he would try to make his living in the fl y fishing world. Andy started guiding for Spring Creek Anglers in Burney, California where he worked. He guided and tied flies to earn enough money to support his fishing habit. After a four year stint at Spring Creek Anglers Andy went to work for the Fly Shop in Redding, California. It was at the Fly Shop where Andy started his writing career. Andy has had articles published in many fl y fishing magazines and other publications. For almost fourteen years Andy has been a contributing editor for California Fly Fisher magazine where he writes the At the Vise column and often contributes feature articles. He also started designing flies for Umpqua Feather Merchants during his tenure at the Fly Shop and his flies are now sold all over the world. After nearly ten years at the Fly Shop, Andy moved to Reno to work for longtime friend and fishing accomplice Dave Stanley at the Reno Fly Shop were you can find him these days. Andy is a featured speaker with the Federation of Flyfishers and will be on the agenda at the NCCFFF Festival of Flyfishers Conference in Redding, CA, October 6 thru 8, 2006.Join us at the meeting for a really different presentation.
